On 29 November – 1 December 2011, continuing the cooperation between the Lithuanian and Polish institutions of cultural heritage protection, director of the Polish National Heritage Institute Paulina Florjanowicz and her deputy Mariusz Czuba visited Vilnius on the initiative of the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture.
As both institutions perform similar functions related to heritage protection in their countries, the aim of the visit was to share information and experience on heritage restoration and conservation, discuss the general priorities of heritage management in both countries and the possible areas for further cooperation.
According to Ms. Diana Varnaitė, director of the Department of Cultural Heritage in Lithuania, it is especially important to maintain bilateral relations between Lithuania and Poland in the field of cultural heritage protection, as being close nighbours our countries have long years of common history and cultural values.
Besides the meeting at the Department of Cultural Heritage with its director Diana Varnaitė and director of the Polish Institute in Lithuania Malgorzata Kasner, the Polish guests had a meeting at the State Cultural Heritage Commission with its chairwoman Gražina Drėmaitė.
During the visit the Polish experts were acquainted with the latest heritage restoration projects in Lithuania, visited the Užutrakis manor house in Trakai, the Pranas Gudynas Restoration centre in Vilnius and other objects.
