The Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania is organizing the international conference “Cultural Heritage and the EU 2020 strategy – towards an integrated approach”, that will be held within the framework of the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council, on November 13–14, 2013 in Vilnius, Lithuania.

International conference: benefits of cultural heritage for other EU policies

On 13–14 November, the international conference “Cultural heritage and the EU 2020 strategy – towards an integrated approach” will be held in Vilnius. By pointing out and discussing the diversity of cultural heritage and its interaction with other EU policies, a range of possibilities will be exploited for cultural heritage to be a resource for other policy fields.

The European Heritage Heads Forum

The European Heritage Heads Forum is an informal network that brings together the heads of the European state heritage authorities (built heritage, landscapes and archaeology) to share ideas about the management of the historic environment in the 21st century.

Discussion centres on emerging trends, political engagement, European legislation and the scope of international heritage protection and how these affect national properties from Bavarian castles to Italian palazzi. Also research, development, current challenges and the economic future of heritage throughout Europe.

Cultural heritage cooperation in the Baltic Sea States - The Monitoring Group on cultural heritage

In the Baltic Sea region, there are various regional structures and approaches, which utilize and impact both directly and indirectly on the cultural heritage and its management. Heritage collaboration contributes to valorization of heritage concerns. It generates well-tailored bilateral and regional projects with reasonable targets, competent partners and a larger sphere of influence when implementing results.

The Monitoring Group on cultural heritage in the Baltic Sea States (MG) is a regional network of state authorities in charge of cultural heritage management. The networking of the MG and its thematic Working Groups promote sustainable management of and integrated policies for cultural heritage.

About European Heritage Days

Annual events of the Council of Europe programme "European Heritage Days" in Lithuania are coordinated and organized by the Culture Heritage Department under the Ministry of Culture, as well as by municipalities of towns and districts. The events of the “European Heritage Days” in Lithuania have been held since 1994. Every year they attract a lot of attention and a huge number of participants from various groups of the society.

Each year the “European Heritage Days” in Lithuania have a special theme with the aim to promote specific related objects and their cultural values. The initiative of the “European Heritage Days” gives a good possibility to promote and increase the awareness and understanding of cultural heritage values, to highlight its importance in the history of Lithuania and the whole Europe, to develop an integral identity of the Lithuania and European citizens.

Seminar in Vilnius on European Cultural Routes

After a decade of successful cooperation with the European Institute of Cultural Routes and following Lithuania`s accession to the Enlarged Partial Agreement on Cultural Routes in 2012, the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of Lithuania organized an international seminar on Cultural Routes on 6 December 2012 in Vilnius.

Countries consolidate efforts against illicit archaeology

With the aim to develop international cooperation in the field of archaeological heritage, the Cultural Heritage Department under the Ministry of Culture organized a round-table discussion “Practice in Fighting against Illicit Archaeology” on May 31, 2012 in Vilnius, Lithuania. Ms. Diana Varnaitė, director of Cultural Heritage Department, says that such meetings are very important, as fighting against heritage crime is possible only consolidating the efforts on the international level.

Visit of Polish cultural heritage specialists in Vilnius

On 29 November – 1 December 2011, continuing the cooperation between the Lithuanian and Polish institutions of cultural heritage protection, director of the Polish National Heritage Institute Paulina Florjanowicz and her deputy Mariusz Czuba visited Vilnius on the initiative of the Department of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture.

Resolution of the international conference “Wooden Architectural Heritage and National Cultural Policy”

Implementing the 2008–2010 Plan of Measures to Protect the Wooden Architectural Heritage signed by the Minister of Culture, the Department of Cultural Heritage in collaboration with the State Commission for Cultural Heritage and under the aegis of the Education, Science and Culture Committee of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania organised the international conference “Wooden Architectural Heritage and National Cultural Policy” which took place on 26–27 May 2010.

European Heritage Heads Forum meeting on Changes in Rural Heritage

On 26-27 May 2011 in Amsterdam took place EHHF (European Heritage Heads Forum) meeting. The theme of the meeting was Changes in Rural Heritage. Twenty six counties and their experiences were represented in the meeting.
